It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Read This Week

This week the End of The Year Read-A-Thon began. There's three book in specific I want to read. Sadly, I've only read one of those books and I'm working on the other! The Read-a-thon goes to the 22nd, but I really don't know if I'll finish all the books in time.

  • Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich. Read for Read-a-thon.
  • Cascade by Maryanne O'Hara. Audiobook.
  • The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell. Audiobook.

Currently Reading

  • Dracula by Bram Stoker. I think I have three more chapters. I am so not into this one.
  • Lions at Lunchtime by Mary Pope Osborne. Reading to my five-year-old.
  • Love Is A Battlefield by Annalisa Daughety. Reading for the Read-a-thon. This one is cute. I just haven't had a lot of time to devote to it.
  • Gods Without Men by Hari Kunzru. Audiobook, really liking it.
  • Intimate Surrender by Laura Landon. Somewhat on hold while I read books for the Read-a-thon.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I didn't get many books read last week. This week I'm participating in the End-of-the-Year Read-a-thon hosted by Juliababyjen and Danasquare, so I wanted to get a few books out of the way, such as this week's Throwback Thursday book and another book for St. Lucia's Day. This Reading-a-thon last for about two weeks, it goes from December 9th to the 22nd. My goal is to read 6 books. It doesn't seem like much for two books, but this is such a busy time for me I don't want to aim too high. I'll be reading 6 romances that will help jump-start a romance book thing I'm doing for February.

Read This Week

  • The Baby-Sitters Club: Baby-sitters' Christmas Chiller by Ann M. Martin.
  • Perfect by Autumn Jordan
  • Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2) by Deborah Harkness
  • Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh
  • Samantha's Surprise: A Christmas Story by Valerie Tripp
  • Kirsten's Surprise: A Christmas Story by Janet Beeler Shaw

Currently Reading

  • Cascade by MaryAnne O'Hara. Current audiobook.
  • Intimate Surrender by Laura Landon. Borrowed from Kindle Lending Library.
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker. Still. It doesn't help that I read a chapter a week.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Read This Week

  • A Discovery of Witches. I keep describing this book as "grown up Twilight". Definitely lived up to all the hype, for me.
  • Holiday Royale. Eh, just a sappy Harlequin romance. Review to be posted.
  • The Valley of Amazement. Tears... so many tears.
Currently Reading

  • Dracula by Bram Stoker. My goal this week was to finally finish The Valley of Amazement and Dracula. I finished The Valley of Amazement, but not Dracula. However, I did make progress on it so that's worth something.
  • Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2). Not liking this one as much as the first. I'm just ready for them to find the dang book they're looking for and have it over. I have no interest in the middle ages and so far this entire book is set during that time period.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Read This Week

  • The Secret of the Old Clock (Nancy Drew Mysteries #1) by Carolyn Keene. This was this week's Throwback Thursday post. This was my first Nancy Drew mystery! 4 out of 5 stars.
  • "Hatsukoi." (Ren'ai Rensai #2) by Hildred Billings. Reviewed for my erotic book blog, The Book Babe: After Dark. 4 out of 5 stars.
  • A Small Town Thanksgiving (Forever, Texas #8) by Marie Ferrarella. To be posted on Wednesday, 11/27/13. Reviewed as Thanksgiving Reading.
  • A Journey to the New World: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple (Mayflower, 1620) by Kathryn Lasky. To be posted for Throwback Thursday (Thanksgiving edition!), Thursday 11/28/13.
  • The Wicked Confessions of Lady Cecelia Stanton by Viveka Portman. Reviewed for my erotic book blog, The Book Babe: After Dark. 3 out of 5 stars.
Currently Reading

  • A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Audiobook. I actually just finished this one, but I only count books finished on Sunday or before as "read" for this post. I'll be posting the review for this soon!
  • Holiday Royale by Christine Rimmer. I'm trying to read Christmas books to post during Christmas time. I've read like three and I'm already getting sick of them.
  • The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan. I've been reading this for about 3 weeks now. I keep putting it down for days and weeks, but this week I'm really going to focus on it. Promise.
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker. Been reading for about two months. Sigh. I did make progress though, I read one chapter this week...

It's Monday! What are you Reading?

Currently Reading

1. The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan. Really good so far! I don't usually by books full price when they first come out, but I had to with Amy Tan. She hasn't released a book in about eight years and she's one of my favorite authors.

2. Million Dollar Christmas Proposal by Lucy Monroe. This is my first Harlequin Presents book. The writing isn't the best, but the story is pretty interesting even though it is a bit unbelievable.

3. Persuasion by Jane Austen. I hate to admit that I've never read a Jane Austen book before. I bought this one when it was the Audible Deal of The Day sometime last week. I've only listened to about two chapters so far, but it hasn't really caught my interest yet.

4. Ghost Town at Sundown by Mary Pope Osborne. This one I'm reading to my five-year-old son. He loves the Magic Tree House series and I love how they're fun and educational. This one is based in the Wild West and it's pretty good so far.

5. Dracula by Bram Stoker. Leftover from Halloween. I haven't read it much this past week even though I have been enjoying it. It's just sort of been put on the back burner since I've been trying to do some Christmas reading.

Reviewed This Week

1. Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. 4 out of 5 stars.
2. My Name Used To Be Muhammad by Tito Momen. 3 out of 5 stars.
3. The Dinner by Herman Koch . 2 out of 5 stars.
4. Dolphins at Daybreak by Mary Pope Osborne. 4 out of 5 stars.

It's Monday! What are you Reading?

I haven't participated in It's Monday! for what seems like a really long time! I miss doing weekly memes and there's a few I'd like to start-up again and this is one of them.

Reading Now

My Story by Elizabeth Smart

This is my current audiobook. I downloaded it off of Audible and plan to post my review during Women's History Month (March) where I'll be featuring memoirs written by women on the blog. This book is pretty intense and I'm finding myself feeling a bit angry and stressed while listening to Elizabeth's narrative (she reads for the audiobook herself). I think that's how you know a book is good though, when it draws you in enough to alter your mood. If anyone else is interested in doing Women's History Month with me maybe I can make one of those LinkyThings so we all can share our reviews?

My Name Used To Be Muhammad by Tito Momen

Oddly enough both memoirs I'm currently reading are written by Mormons (maybe that's not so odd, considering I'm Mormon). I'm still in the early stages of this one, which is about a Nigerian man who converts from Islam to LDS.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

I started reading Dracula in October with the aim of posting it for Halloween. I'm enjoying it, but I didn't dedicate enough time to it and so when I do finish I'm just going to schedule the review for next October (lol).

A Family for Christmas by Winnie Griggs

I'm going to try to read at least some Christmas books, tis the season after all! Well, it's almost the season. This is a cute one so far and I just love that family on the cover.

Dolphin's at Daybreak

This is the 9th in the Magic Tree House series which my 5-year-old son loves. We're currently reading this one. Reading chapter books is kind of hard for us right now since I work at nights and when I come home he's already sleeping, but we're getting a chapter or two in when we can.

I've previously left Little House in the Big Woods off Chloe's "currently reading" list because she's been reading it off and on and I wasn't sure if she'd pick it up again. This is the first chapter book she's reading by herself. I'm going to include it this week since we read one during the week and she read it during some of the Sacrament Meeting at church.

Daughter of Jerusalem

Plain Pursuit

The two Love Inspired books were from Paperbackswap.com swaps. The other book, Daughter of Jerusalem, I received free courtesy of Worthy Publishing. Relatively Dead (Kindle)
By Sheila Connolly
Review here.

I'm definitely trying to finish up series that I've started. Problem is there's probably 20 series I need to finish!! Slowly, but surely. Slow and steady wins the race right? Right?!

Our week in reading was definitely not as productive as usual. We actually missed story time a few days this week. I'm not even sure why or what happened. Shame on us! Definitely going to stay on track this week.
