The Memory of Lost Senses
By Judith Kinghorn

Description From Amazon

Within weeks letters would be burned, pages torn. Promises would be broken and hearts betrayed. But for now the countryside languished, golden and fading…

Cecily Chadwick is idling away the long, hot summer of 1911 when a mysterious countess moves into the large, deserted country house on the edge of her sleepy English village. Rumors abound about the countess’s many husbands and lovers, her opulent wealth, and the tragedies that have marked her life. As Cecily gets to know her, she becomes fascinated by the remarkable woman—riveted by her tales of life on the Continent, and of the famous people she once knew. But the countess is clearly troubled by her memories, and by ruinous secrets that haunt her…

Staying with the countess is a successful novelist and dear friend who has been summoned to write the countess’s memoirs. For aspiring writer Cecily, the novelist’s presence only adds to the intrigue of the house. But it is the countess’s grandson, Jack, who draws Cecily further into the tangled web of the countess's past, and sweeps her into an uncertain future…

Why I'm Waiting

I love books about authors! This one also seems haunting, sort of reminiscent of The Thirteenth Tale to me. Also, as a fan of Downton Abbey, I've become more interested in books set during this time period.

The Pelican Bride
By Beth White

Description from Amazon

It is 1704 when Genevieve Gaillain and her sister board a French ship headed for the Louisiana colony as mail-order brides. Both have promised to marry one of the rough-and-tumble Canadian men in this New World in order to escape religious persecution in the Old World. Genevieve knows life won't be easy, but at least here she can establish a home and family without fear of beheading. But when she falls in love with Tristan Lanier, an expatriate cartographer whose courageous stand for fair treatment of native peoples has made him decidedly unpopular in the young colony, Genevieve realizes that even in this land of liberty one is not guaranteed peace. And a secret she harbors could mean the undoing of the colony itself.

Gulf Coast native Beth White brings vividly to life the hot, sultry south in this luscious, layered story of the lengths we must go to in order to be true to ourselves, our faith, and our deepest loves.

Why I'm Waiting

The First thing that drew me to this book was the pretty cover. Then I read the description... I love mail-order bride stories and anything involving the "wilderness". Plus, the story seems really juicy and exciting! I also love the adjectives used to describe the story by the publisher, "sultry" and "luscious" always make for good books, in my opinion. Even though Revell is a Christian publisher I'm hoping for a little "oomph".

Love Comes Calling
By Siri Mitchell

Description from Amazon

A girl with the best of intentions.
A heart set on Hollywood.
An empty pocketbook.

That's all it takes for Ellis Eton to find herself working as a telephone operator for a look-alike friend. For Ellis, this job will provide not only acting practice but the funds to get her a start in the movies. She's tired of always being a disappointment to her traditional Boston family, and though she can't deny the way he makes her head spin, she knows she's not good enough for Griffin Phillips, either. It's simple: avoid Griff's attentions, work, and get paid. But in typical Ellis fashion, her simple plan spirals out of control when she overhears a menacing phone call...with her very own Griff as the target.

With an endearing heroine as her lead, Siri Mitchell takes readers on a madcap tale
of love and discovering one's true desires!

Why I'm waiting

I'm interested in the time period this book is set in and the mystery looks really interesting! I also love that the main character is a telephone operator. It seems like it has all the stuff classic black and white movies are made of!

Waiting on Wednesday

Hosted by Breaking The Spine

Release Date: November 5, 2013
Description

A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR

Ghostwriter Samantha Monroe has just arrived in Forever, Texas, to turn a remarkable woman's two-hundred-year-old journals into a personal memoir. The Rodriguez clan welcomes her with open arms…and awakens Sam's fierce yearning to be part of a family. But it's the eldest son—intensely private rancher Mike Rodriguez—who awakens her passion.

Hiring Sam to preserve his great-great-great-grandmother's story for future generations was Mike's inspiration. He just didn't realize how much he'd want her to be part of his family's continuing saga. Delving into the past has made Sam hungry for a future—with Mike. The next move is up to him—if he doesn't make it, the best woman he's ever met just might waltz back out of his life forever!

Why I'm Waiting

They had me at two-hundred-year-old journals, memoir, and ghostwriter. I also like Harlequin romances even though they're often considered the bottom of the literary barrel. Sometimes they can be cheesy, but I still have found some that I like. I think they're cute, short reads.
